LRDG WIP 3

Work continues. Still trying to figure out how to paint the sand ladders hanging on the side. The jerry can is marked with a white cross, I read somewhere that this was used to indicate cans only to be used for water. True or not, it adds a bit of colour.

EDIT: it was indeed true, and I was indeed wrong. Thanks to Jocke for pointing it out and for providing this excellent pic of what it should look like. I'll get it right on the next one I build.

  1. Looking better and better, Thomas.
From the memoirs I've read of the desert and of Italy, where everyone complains about the taste of gas and oil in the drinking water, I'm betting that a lot of guys ignored the white cross when they needed to put gas in something.
Definitely a good idea in theory.

    1. Yes, I reckon it's better to try than to not try.

  2. I think the cross usually was a cross and not an "X". Not sure, though. To late to check tonight, I'm off to bed.

    1. You have the book I saw it in. Let me know how wrong I was when you have the time.
